Notice at collection (California)
If you are a California resident, here is what we collect at or before the point of collection: identifiers such as your email address when you subscribe; a pseudonymous cryptographic hash derived from the network address used at signup, not the address itself; your city edition; and, only if you accept optional analytics, cookie and analytics identifiers and page activity. We use these to send the magazine, keep the list healthy, understand what is working on the site, and measure our advertising on city home pages. We do not sell your email address or subscriber list. A Vibe advertising measurement pixel on city home pages may be considered sharing under California law, and you can opt out at any time on our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page. We do not create or sell separate inference profiles about you, and we do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information.
Where it comes from
Directly from you when you subscribe, unsubscribe, or send an opt-out request; from your browser through cookies, local storage, and signals such as Global Privacy Control; and from our email delivery service, which reports delivery, click, bounce, and complaint events.
When you sign up, we record how you found us, such as a search, a social post, or a link someone shared. We use this only to understand what brings readers to the newsletter.
When you click a link in a newsletter email, we record which link you used so we can see what readers care about. We do not track whether you opened the email.
How we use it
Sending the magazine you asked for; keeping the list accurate and honoring unsubscribes and opt-outs; understanding site performance when you allow analytics; measuring whether our advertising leads households to visit or subscribe; and protecting the site and the signup form from abuse.
Who processes it
magazine.ltd (the editor) operates the list and this site. Replit hosts the site, API, and database and processes requests to provide that infrastructure, keeping operational and security logs such as request times, paths, network addresses, and browser details. Resend delivers the magazine and receives your email address, city, and subscriber person_id so delivery events can be matched to your subscription. PostHog provides optional website analytics and only loads after you accept. Vibe runs the advertising measurement pixel on city home pages and never receives your email address. A necessary first-party session cookie keeps the editor signed in to the admin page.
Cookies on this site
A necessary first-party cookie remembers your analytics choice, and a second necessary cookie keeps the editor signed in to the admin page. If you accept optional analytics, PostHog sets first-party analytics cookies and local storage. The Vibe pixel on city home pages sets its own short-lived cookie; that pixel is not controlled by the analytics Yes or No choice. To opt out of Vibe measurement, use Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.
Sale and sharing
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share the subscriber list for another company's own marketing, and we do not sell your email address. Because the Vibe pixel transmits technical information to an advertising partner, California law may treat that pixel as a sale or share of personal information. You can opt out through Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information, and we honor the Global Privacy Control signal.
Your choices
Accept or decline optional analytics with the cookie banner, and change your mind anytime with the Change cookie preferences button on this page. Unsubscribe from the list using the link at the bottom of any issue. Opt out of sale or sharing on Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out of sale/share.
California privacy rights
California residents can ask to know and access the personal information we hold, correct it, delete it, opt out of its sale or sharing, and limit the use of sensitive personal information (we do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information). We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To exercise them, email editor@magazine.ltd or use Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.
Children
magazine.ltd is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Leaving the list
Click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any issue and explicitly confirm on the unsubscribe page. The confirmation protects against automated email link scanners. Your address is marked unsubscribed and we stop emailing you. We retain a suppression record so your choice is honored if the address is submitted again. To request deletion, email the address printed on an issue.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page before it takes effect.
